Rant: Too Tall for Japanese Clothing

I thought it was hard shopping for clothes in my own country... Then I saw the sizes on Amazon Japan. Although I was aware that Asian sizes ran small, but the reality of how small never hit until a near fruitless search for fashions to add to my closet.
They don't sell this sort of stuff here...
Obviously, (to people who've seen me) I'm not a tiny person. Although I have a thin build, I’m a little taller than most people. Currently, I stand at 5'7in (or 170cm for you non-Americans) while the largest size only goes up to 162cm.

In the US I'm a size S, but in Japan I'm a size L. That is a whole two sizes bigger, way too short, and a tight fit! It's a shame because they have so many cute clothes I can never wear, even with excessive tailoring. While the US has too many "sexy" and "hot" clothes, Japan's styles are cute and demure. It's exactly what I'm looking for and cheaper than importing from Europe!

It's extremely hard shopping for clothes and shoes when dealing with Japanese sizing simply because I'm not Japanese. My size in clothes and shoes is non-existent in Japan unless I import from a "tall store" in the US. Luckily, I still live in the US where there's a 25% chance of finding clothes that fit and aren't made to look whorish.

It makes me wonder how vastly different body types and size are in America than Japan.

  1. I know how you feel...I'm 5 ft 7 in as well and I love Japanese clothes so much, but I'm always too tall for them. Good luck on finding clothes that fit!
