(アニメ) Anime: Short for animation; it refers to animation originally from Japan in the West.

(漫画) Manga: Means "comic" in Japanese; refers to Japanese comic books in the West.

(オタク) Otaku: A slang term used to refer to a person so obsessed with something they never leave their house. In Japan, it is used as an insult and carries negative connotations. In the west, it is a reclaimed word meaning "anime fan". The original term, (お宅) also pronounced otaku, means "your honorable house".

(可愛い) Kawaii: An adjective meaning "cute" or "adorable". Cuteness in Japan is a valued and a desirable trait. It is written with the characters "acceptable" and "love".  

(萌え) Moe: A term used in anime culture to refer to the infatuation with cute, young looking, vulnerable girls. They are usually meant to produce feelings of wanting to protect them. Can also refer to boys, but is not generally recognized. Derived from the characters "to bud or sprout". 

(美少年) Bishounen: A term used in anime culture. Refer to young, attractive, pretty men. Both bishounen and bishoujo are derived from the characters "beauty" and "boy" or "girl" 

(美少女) Bishoujo: A term used in anime culture. Refer to young, attractive, pretty women. Both bishounen and bishoujo are derived from the characters "beauty" and "boy" or "girl"

(子供向け)Kodomo: A demographic. It refers to anime and manga targeted at young kids. The characters read as Kodomomuke which means "Intended for children".
-Examples of kodomo include: Pokemon and Doraemon.

(小女) Shoujo: A demographic. Targeted at young girls (through high school).  The stories typically deal with romance, responsibility... etc. The characters literally read as "Small/young woman".
-Examples of shoujo include: Vassalord, DN Angel, Vampire Knight, and Mamotte Lollipop.

(少年)Shounen: A demographic. Targeted at young boys (age 10 through high school). Typically action filled, and built on the relationship between (male) friends or comrades. The characters literally read as "few years" but means "boy".
-Examples of shounen include: Naruto, Kuroshitsuji/Black Butler, Lucky Star, and Bleach.

(女性) Josei: A demographic. Targeted at adult women. The stories have more realistic and mature themes than typical shoujo. The characters litterally read as "woman".
-Examples of Josei include: Usagi Drop, and Paradise Kiss

(青年)Seinen: A demographic. Targeted at adult men usually 20-30. Some companies make titles for older men as well. Like Josei, the stories have more realistic and mature themes than typical shounen. The characters read literally as "young years", but means "young man".
-Examples of seinen include: Monster, Bartender, Le Chevalier d'Eon, Chi's Sweet Home, A-Channel, and Doujin Work!! 

(ヤンデレ) Yandere: A term used in anime. A person who is loving towards the object of their affection to an unhealthy degree. They are often mentally unstable. Derived from yanderu (病んでる) "to fall ill" and deredere (でれでれ) "to show affection". 

(ヤンギレ) Yangire: A term used in anime. A person who snaps, usually due to abuse or mental illness.

(やおい) Yaoi: Refers to a genre of women's comics featuring men in homosexual or homoerotic relationships. Derived from the phrase "Yama nashi, ochi nashi, imi nashi" or "No peak, no point, no meaning." 

(腐女子) Fujoshi: A term in anime culture that refers to girls and women who like yaoi. It's an insulting term, and should be used with care. It literally means "rotten woman".

(百合) YuriRefers to the genre of men's comics featuring women in homosexual or homoerotic relationships. Written with the character for "lily"

(魔法) Mahou: A term used in anime culture meaning "magic". It is most often used when referring to mahou shoujo (魔法少女), or "Magical Girl" anime.

(ギャルゲム) Gal Game; Galge: Refers to bishoujo games. Japanese dating sims targeted at males. They typically have multiple datable girls.
